Troubleshooting
The dialogs “Source no longer available”, “File not found” and “Can’t reach the network share” each have a Learn more button that opens their section below. New in 3.06
“Source no longer available”
Section titled ““Source no longer available””ComicDrive can no longer open the folder this comic lives in. That happens after reinstalling the app, after restoring a backup on a new phone, or when the folder’s permission was reset. The comic itself is usually still there.
Tap Reconnect folder and pick the same folder you added before. Your reading progress stays. Choose Remove from library only if you no longer want the comic.
“File not found”
Section titled ““File not found””The comic’s file no longer exists where ComicDrive last saw it: it was deleted, renamed or moved. If you moved it into another folder you added, rescan that folder so ComicDrive picks the file up there (see After you add or move comics).
If the file is gone for good, remove the comic from the library. Its reading progress is removed with it.
“Can’t reach the network share”
Section titled ““Can’t reach the network share””ComicDrive couldn’t load the comic from your NAS or shared folder. The comic and its reading progress stay in your library. Below the message, the dialog names the reason, and its buttons fit that reason:
- The server can’t be reached: it may be switched off or asleep, or the phone may be offline or on another network. Check that the server is on and reachable from this phone, for example on the same Wi-Fi, then tap Try again. Comics you have opened before are cached on the phone and usually open without the server.
- The sign-in failed: the password may have changed or may not be stored after a restore. Tap Fix credentials and enter it again.
- The server’s identity changed (SFTP): tap Verify server identity and compare the previously trusted and the presented identity. Trust the new one only if you expected the change, for example after reinstalling the server.
- The file or folder is gone: it may have been renamed or moved on the server. Tap Edit connection to check the share name and folder path.
Comics don’t appear
Section titled “Comics don’t appear”- Wrong folder level: ComicDrive reads a folder with all its subfolders, so add the top folder of your collection rather than a folder next to it.
- Provider without folders: some cloud providers only offer single files. See Providers without folders.
- New files: after adding or moving comics, rescan the folder. See After you add or move comics.
- Unsupported format: folders of loose images, password-protected PDFs and split RAR sets are not read. See Supported formats.
Pages stay blank or the app closes while reading
Section titled “Pages stay blank or the app closes while reading”Some devices have a system bug with how comic pages are kept in graphics memory. Open Settings › Troubleshooting › Hardware bitmaps for comic pages and choose Off. The default, Automatic (recommended), already turns it off on the devices known to be affected, and suits almost every other device.
The cache uses too much space
Section titled “The cache uses too much space”Comics from the cloud, from network shares and from OPDS servers are copied to the phone the first time you open them; a comic streamed from an OPDS server keeps only its pages. Recently opened pages are also kept as images, so they open instantly the next time; they use up to 512 MB, and the oldest make room for new ones. Settings › Storage & cache shows how much space each takes and how much is still free on the phone. New in 3.06
To free the space, tap Settings › Storage & cache › Clear cache. Reading progress, bookmarks and the covers in your library are not affected; comics are downloaded again the next time you open them. A downloaded comic that has no source to download it from again is removed from the library, with its progress and bookmarks; the confirmation says so before anything is removed.
“Your settings were reset”
Section titled ““Your settings were reset””ComicDrive found its settings file damaged and had to start it over, so your preferences went back to their defaults. That includes the app lock: if you used one, it is now off. Turn it on again under App lock, then check the settings you rely on. Your library, reading progress and bookmarks are not affected. Tap the notice to dismiss it.
Starting over with the settings
Section titled “Starting over with the settings”- Settings › Reset › Reset all settings puts the reader, appearance and image filter settings back to their defaults, including the filters and the brightness you set in the reader. It leaves your library, reading progress, bookmarks and removed comics alone, as well as the app language, the app lock, the backup setup, the settings you changed for a single comic, and how each list is displayed.
- Settings › Reset › Show hidden notices again brings back every notice you hid with “Do not show this notice again”; each appears the next time you use its feature.
A series is grouped wrong
Section titled “A series is grouped wrong”ComicDrive groups comics into series automatically. When it gets one wrong, open the series and use its menu: Rename series, Merge series to join two, or Split series to move issues into a new one. More in Organizing your library.
